Balance

Making time for writing lately has been a struggle. When I do make the time, it’s exhilarating. Even now as I am making slow and steady progress with my synopsis for my first novel, I feel joy and am encouraged with every little inch of ground.

I’m also a realist and know that soon when I begin querying editors and agents, I will experience some significant rejection, but that’s okay. This is a learn as you go process and I will not let that deter me from my goal.

Balancing work, family and social life is a tough thing to do. There doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day, but I’m doing it anyway. I’m as determined in that quality time as I am in making time to write. I get up early to write, go to work and spend the evenings doing mom things or with family or friends. Of course, there are other things I have to fit in, like exercise, housework, yard work and paying the bills. It all gets done somehow.

I’ve managed to write a 72,000-word count novel in 5 months. I am taking that as a huge accomplishment in itself. I’m just about ready to find a few beta readers as I continue to edit the manuscript and write my synopsis.

I’m doing the best I can with the time I have been given. The benefits of making the time far outweigh the stress of finding the time. This is what I focus on because when I make the time, the time spent is much more enjoyable.

I realize they may seem like the same thing, but they’re really not.
Making time is a positive step, finding time denotes stress. If you change your mindset in this way, you may discover more enjoyment in your everyday life. Reach for that.
